(Sunday 11th May 2008)
Wanderers will go into the second-leg of the play-off semi-final all-square after being held to a 1-1 by Stockport County at Adams Park on Sunday evening. Delroy Facey had given Wycombe the lead in the 37th minute after latching onto a poor clearance by County 'keeper John Ruddy and it looked like that would be the only goal of the game until eight minutes from time when Stephen Gleeson struck home from the edge of the box after the ball was only partially cleared following a cross from the right. The return leg is at Edgeley Park next Saturday with a 6pm kick-off. Wycombe: Fielding, Martin, Williamson, Johnson, Woodman, Oakes, Holt, Doherty (sub 72 Phillips), Torres, Facey (sub 87 Sutton), McGleish (sub 72 Knight) - subs not used: Young, McCracken - Att: 6,371 (away end 1200 approx) |

B&B FINAL DEFEAT
(Monday 5th May 2008)
A largely youthful and inexperienced Wanderers side lost 3-0 to Chesham United in the Final of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup at The Meadow on Bank Holiday Monday. The home side adapted better to the awkward and bumpy surface and took the lead in the 15th minute when Andy Keepence headed home a right wing corner.
Wanderers rarely troubled the Chesham defence and fell further behind six minutes into the second-half in bizarre fashion. Defender Robert Rice sent a long range back pass from the Wycombe right to Jamie Young who air kicked with his right foot and could only watch in horror as the ball rolled past him and into the back of the net. Wanderers went closest to pulling a goal back on the hour mark when a Callum Botham strike was tipped away but victory was sealed in fine fashion for United in the 70th minute when Don Marsala curled in a free-kick from the right channel. Wycombe: Young, Rice, Massey (sub 85 Read), Gregory, Cadmore, Antwi, Pearce (sub 72 Lumsden), Shulton, Daly, Ogbuagu (sub 72 Braithwaite), Botham - sub not used: Reading - Att: 664 |

WYCOMBE 2 BRADFORD 1
(Saturday 3rd May 2008)
Wanderers beat Bradford City 2-1 at Adams Park on the final day of the regular season and with a final placing of 7th will play Stockport County in the 2007/8 'League Two' Play-off semi-finals. A right flank strike from Delroy Facey on 6 minutes and a close range flick on by Leon Knight after 25 minutes set Wanderers on their way to a laid back victory despite Paul Lambert again resting some of his first choice players. Luke Medley converted a penalty for the visitors a minute before the break but it couldn't stop Wanderers taking all three points and finishing with 78 points - ten points behind the final automatic spot but seven points more than when Wanderers last reached the play-offs at the end of the 2005/6 season. The first leg of the play-off semi-final with Stockport County will take place at Adams Park on Sunday 11th May with a 6pm kick-off. The return leg takes place at Edgley Park on Saturday 17th May with a 6pm kick-off. The other semi-final is between Rochdale and Darlington with the winners facing each other in the final at Wembley Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday 26th May with a 3pm kick-off. Martin Bullock has announced his retirment from professional football after just one season with the Wanderers. The 33 year old was contracted with Wycombe until the summer of 2009 but has come to an agreement with the Club to leave early to spend more time with his family and organise moving abroad. He told the Official website, "I just don't feel that I can perform as well as I used to, my performances have dwindled and I don't think I have the enthusiasm needed for the game. I think that when you're not enjoying it, that's when it's time to stop and so I've decided to call it a day." The right sided midfielder made 17 'League Two' starts for Wycombe and totalled 27 appearances without finding the net. During his playing career he made in excess of 500 senior appearances, including lenghtly spells at both Barnsley and Blackpool. AP OUT OF GREEN BELT
(Thursday 1st May 2008)
A Government Inspectorate has approved the plans by Wycombe District Council to take Adams Park and the adajacent car park out of the 'Green Belt'. The plans were first put forward back in September 2005 and were thought to be linked with proposals to re-site Wanderers and London Wasps at another location at the East of the Town centre. The decision by the Inspectorate prompted the Bucks Free Press to run a front page story proclaiming "Green Light given to extend Adams Park" and how this "new developlment could increase the capacity to around 12,500". The uncredited piece went on to speculate that the land could be worth £1m an acre for industrial usage as opposed to £4,000 an acre as agricultural land. Meanwhile, Wanderers Chief Executive and London Wasps Director, Steve Hayes commented, "We are looking at temporary seating for the Wasps for the future. The council may be willing to help, Wanderers may be willing to help and you are half-way there. But you have to go through a great deal of red tape when it is on the green belt. Extra seating would make a huge difference until the stadium moved." Hayes added, "We and the council don't want to see Wasps leaving the town so we have to work together to make this a win-win situation." However, any expansion plans will have to backed up with improved vehicle access which has been an ongoing problem both logistically and financially. |

B&B FINAL VENUE SWITCH
(Tuesday 29th April 2008)
The venue for Bank Holiday Monday's Berks & Bucks Senior Cup Final between Wanderers and Chesham United has been switched from Adams Park to The Meadow at Chesham. According to the Wanderers Official website, "The game has been moved to enable the playing surface at Adams Park to be presented in its best possible condition for the home leg of the play-offs." Wanderers are at home to Bradford City on Saturday and 24 hours later it will be used by London Wasps for their home fixture with Gloucester. Manager Paul Lambert recently criticised the surface at Adams Park, commenting to the Bucks Free Press published 25th April, "[the pitch] is not doing us any favours whatsever. At Grimsby you can pass it, at MK Dons we could pass it, but here the pitch is poor and the ball is bobbling up. For football it is not good and not good for the players we have got." The Final at Chesham will kick-off at 3pm with entrance costs set at £8 for adults and £4 for concessions. |

NOTTS COUNTY 1 WYCOMBE 0
(Saturday 26th April 2008)
A much changed Wanderers line-up lost 1-0 at Notts County on Saturday to give the home side virtual safety from the fear of relegation and maintain Wycombe's 7th spot in 'League Two'. Paul Lambert brought in Will Antwi, Chris Palmer, Andre Boucaud, Sam Stockley and John Sutton compared to the previous week's starting line-up versus Chester city and also gave a late substitute debuts to younsgters Matt Phillips and Robert Rice. The only goal of the game came in the 66th minute when Richard Butcher lifted the ball over Frank Fielding following Jason Lee's flick on. Sam Stockley was sent-off in the final minute for a second bookable offence. Wanderers now look likely to finish 6th or 7th in the final 'League Two' table. To finish 6th, Wanderers will need to better Darlington's result in the final game of the season - Wycombe are at home to 9th placed Bradford City, while Darlington are away to second placed Peterborough United. Posh have already achieved automatic promotion along with Champions Franchise and third placed Hereford United. Rochdale and Stockport are battling it out for 4th and 5th spot. Rochdale currently lead Stockport by a point but County could leapfrog Dale if they win their game in hand at Chester City on Tuesday evening. Wycombe: Fielding, Stockley, Antwi, McCracken, Martin (sub 89 Rice), Palmer (sub 70 Torres), Oakes, Boucaud, Sutton (sub 82 Phillips), McGleish, Facey - subs not used: Young, Woodman - Att: 7,327 (away section 536) |

WYCOMBE 1 CHESTER CITY 0
(Saturday 19th April 2008)
A Scott McGleish goal twelve minutes from time was enough to beat Chester City 1-0 at Adams Park on Saturday and with Chesterfield being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Darlington it guaranteed a play-off place for Paul Lambert's side. The crucial goal came after a Stefan Oakes free-kick was sent to the far right of the box where Mike Williamson headed on for McGleish to fire in low through a crowd of players and into the back of the Valley End net. Elsewhere MK 'Franchise' and Peterborough United confirmed promotion to 'League One' but the battle for the third and final automatic spot is a battle between five clubs, including Wanderers who are four points behind third spot but would have to win both remaining games and rely on Hereford, Rochdale, Stockport and Darlington slipping up in their remaining games. Wanderers finish the regular season with a trip to Notts County next Saturday (26th April) and then host Bradford City at Adams Park on Saturday 3rd May. Wycombe: Fielding, Martin, Johnson, Williamson, Woodman, Torres (sub 83 McCracken), Doherty, Holt, Oakes, Facey, McGleish (sun 89 Sutton) - subs not used: Palmer, Young, Stockley - Att: 5,497 (away section 200 approx) |

Facey was getting his first start for Wycombe in favour of Leon Knight who later came on as substitute but is now suspended for the next two games after reaching ten yellow cards and therefore will have to wait until Wanderers' final regular game of the season before getting his chance again. Next game for Wanderers is at home to Chester City on Saturday - kick-off 3pm. FRANCHISE 2 WYCOMBE 2
(Saturday 12th April 2008)
A 94th minute equaliser from Franchise stopped Wanderers taking all three points as the game at Stadium MK ended 2-2 - Scott McGleish netting a brace to take his season League tally to 25.
McGleish opened the scoring on 37 minutes when he converted from a central position following a corner from Russell Martin. The score remained 1-0 to Wycombe until the 77th minute when Aaron Wilbraham netted from close range from a Dean Lewington cross. But Wycombe were ahead again in the next minute when sub Delroy Facey headed back for McGleish to loop in a volley from all of 35 yards. That looked enough take the three points but it was deep into stoppage time when Sean O'Hanlon headed past Frank Fielding following another corner. The result put a hold on promotion celebrations for the home side, while Wanderers strengthened their grip on 7th place after 8th placed Chesterfield were held to a 1-1 draw at Morecambe. Eight points from Wycombe's remaining four games will now guarantee a play-off spot but an automatic spot is all but gone. Next game for Wanderers is at Grimsby Town on Tuesday evening. WYCOMBE 2 PETERBORO 2
(Saturday 5th April 2008)
A stoppage time penalty from Scott McGleish salvaged Wanderers a point against second placed Peterborough United at Adams Park on Saturday. Wycombe were grateful for a point but it could have been three after Stefan Oakes had fired in a 25 yard free-kick to Wycombe a fifth minute lead. That lead remained until the 66th minute minute when a deflected shot from George Boyd from the left channel beat Frank Fielding at his near post. Wanderers debutant Delroy Facey had a glorious chance to restore Wycombe's lead shortly after he had come on as sub but he misdirected his header at the far post following Sergio Torres' flighted cross from the left. With seven minutes remaining Liam Hatch, the former Barnet striker who chose Peterborough over Wycombe in the January transfer window, headed into the top right corner of the net to give Posh the lead. But the action wasn't over and when McGleish was adjudged to have been pushed off the ball in the penalty area, he picked himself up to make no mistake from the spot, sending the ball into the right corner of the net. The result sees Peterboro return to the top of the table but Wycombe drop to 7th after Rochdale took over 6th spot following their victory over Grimsby. Wycombe are now looking nervously back at 8th spot where Chesterfield are two points behind but having played a game more. Wycombe are away to MK Franchise next Saturday, while Chesterfield are away to Morecambe. LENNON QUITS FOR CELTIC
(Thursday 3rd April 2008)
Neil Lennon has quit the Wanderers after just over two months at the Club after taking up an offer of a coaching role at Celtic. Lennon, who will be 37 in the summer, was contracted with Wycombe until the end of the current season but will team up with the Glasgow club with immediate effect, thus ending his playing career. Lennon joined Wanderers at the end of the January 2008 transfer window and went on to make nine appearances without finding the net. According to the official Celtic website Lennon says he was contacted by Celtic boss Gordon Strachan on Wednesday, “Gordon rang on Wednesday night and the hardest thing was asking Paul Lambert if I could go. I was enjoying my time at Wycombe and he was good to me. Paul’s a good friend as well, but he was great and I’m grateful to Wycombe for letting me leave." In another article on the offiicial Celtic website, Strachan says he could have delayed the move until the summer, but added, "What we didn’t want to do was affect Paul Lambert’s chances of promotion with Wycombe Wanderers, that wouldn’t be right. But there is a coaching shortfall here at the moment, that Neil was able to fill.” |
